Beijing - Day 1

In the next few posts to come, I will mainly be blogging about the food during my holiday trips. So there you are, with the Christmas season closing in, it is time for some rest and for the lucky ones, a holiday or two to rejuvenate the tired bodies.

This trip in the summer is my first time to China and to be honest, I went without much expectations. However, the trip left me very impressed with the development of the country and definitely changed certain stereotypes that I used to have!

Food wise I am always spoilt for choices since most restaurants offer an extensive menu with pocket friendly prices to match.

Our brunch at a restaurant near the Silk Street Market.

One distinct feature about the cuisine here is that cold dishes are very popular starters.

Seaweed, french beans and peanuts salad served cold.

By the end of the China blog posts, perhaps you will notice that this is my favourite dish in Beijing. My chinese schoolmate always rave about how she loves Liang Pi and now I am more than convinced. It is a simple toss of very smooth kuay teow with sesame oil, chilli oil and some cucumber to go with it. Simple...yes. Yummy...very!

Dinner time.

Quan Ju De, right smacked in the heart of Wang Fu Jin (our Orchard Road equivalent), is recommended by the hotel as one of the most popular restaurant in Beijing itself and has been a household name for decades that specialise in Peking duck.

The restaurant itself occupied 3 levels of the building and yet, the waiting time was almost an hour before we were seated. That is the popluarity of the place.

Our starters of some red bean pastry

Peking duck served on the spot. I have no idea if it is really good but according to my Mum and Sis, both of them like it so much they wanted to order an extra portion to bring back to the hotel as supper.

Prawn with asparagus

Lastly, in loving memory of my camera, one of the last photos I took with it on Friday night...

I am missing it already...
